First Communion

Dear parents and guardians,
Due to the COVID-19 virus pandemic, the world around us as we have known it has changed calling on us to make changes to parish life and the sacraments themselves for those preparing for First Holy Communion and Confirmation.
As you know, Masses were cancelled in all parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Toronto, in various dioceses in Canada and throughout North America as well.  This, in itself, is unprecedented and should make us take stock of what we take for granted and the Source of all our blessings, Jesus Christ.
Yesterday, March 17, the Cardinal Archbishop of Toronto has instructed that all public Masses be cancelled, even Funeral Masses.  While the churches will remain open at certain times to allow the faithful to come and have individual private prayer, gatherings of groups are prohibited for the time being.
At this time the First Communion class, which was scheduled for Saturday, March 28 is cancelled and the classes for Confirmation that were supposed to begin Wednesday, March 28 are cancelled as well.  We don’t know how the pandemic will effect Holy Week and the First Communions to follow.  We will be working to make other plans as to how we will approach preparation for the sacraments as well as their celebration, but will inform you of this at a later date.
In the meantime, pray for the world, the victims of the virus, especially in hard-hit countries like Italy, Iran and our own country of Canada where the virus has not yet peaked.  Pray for those who have died and pray for our healthcare workers, doctors, nurses and technicians at this time when they are working so hard for the health and well being of those who are sick.
Stay well.  Peace.  Fr. Charles

PASSPORTS

Once again we will issue Passports for the children preparing for First Communion. We are asking that all parents attend Sunday Mass with their children each week as part of their preparation for the sacrament in the Easter season. The Passports will be stamped each Sunday the child attends Mass either here or, if attending in another parish, bring us a copy of their bulletin and we will update the Passport with a stamp. Full information about this Passport program (the same as Confirmation) will be given at the Parent Meetings.
